Messages of support for Wembley-bound Rotherham United are pouring in – and many of them are from Sheffield!
Staff at Sheffield International Venues (SIV), which operates the Millers’ home ground Don Valley Stadium, are giving their backing to the club ahead of the play off final fixture against Dagenham and Redbridge.
Rotherham, who made Don Valley their second home in 2008 after leaving Millmoor, will secure their place in League One with victory over the Daggers in the capital on Sunday, May 30.
It follows an impressive 2-0 win over Aldershot in the Play Off semi-final second leg at Don Valley.
Pat Smith, general manager of Don Valley Stadium, said: “It was a fantastic night against Aldershot at Don Valley and it would be brilliant to see them win again on Sunday. The Millers have had a great season so far and thoroughly deserve promotion to League One.
“Historically, Rotherham and Sheffield are footballing rivals but everyone at SIV and Don Valley Stadium is getting behind the Millers. We hope the fans, players, sponsors and directors have a wonderful day at Wembley and return home to South Yorkshire with the play off trophy.”
It is Rotherham’s second Wembley experience, the previous one being at the old ground in 1996 when they won the Auto Windscreens Shield.
Paul Douglas, Rotherham United’s chief operating officer, said: “It is really good to have the support of Sheffield International Venues and Don Valley staff. We have a great relationship with SIV and they have made us feel very welcome.
“There is such a buzz around both the stadium and town and it is fantastic that our loyal fans will get the chance to experience the new Wembley. The players are in a confident mood after such a strong performance against Aldershot and we can’t wait for kick off.”
