There is just one week left to secure your place on the SIG Insulations Sheffield Half Marathon before capacity is filled, according to organisers.
The last official count on Friday February 26 showed there were only 800 spots available.
The rapid sign-up rate means prediction for when entries will close has been brought forward to the week commencing March 8.
The race has reached the milestone figure way ahead of the 2009 event which filled the 5,500 capacity for the first time, two weeks ahead of race day.
Ian Thomas, entries co-ordinator for the Sheffield Half Marathon, said: “Sheffield Half Marathon is really becoming one of the major events of the sporting calendar. Runners love the route, which goes round the picturesque city centre and many of its suburbs.
“The organising committee and our ten chosen charities work extremely hard throughout the year to make sure that everything goes right. We’re thrilled that our dedication is worthwhile as the race is getting increasingly popular year after year so we hope we can continue to build on the amount of money we raise for some fantastic local causes.”
For families wanting to raise money for charity, there are still spots available for the 3km Fun Run.
The SIG Insulations Sheffield Half Marathon and 3k Fun Run will take place on 25 April 2010 at Sheffield International Venues (SIV) managed facility Don Valley Stadium from 9:30am.
The 10 chosen charities for this year’s event are Sheffield Teenage Cancer Trust, Motor Neurone Disease Association South Yorkshire, Macmillan Cancer Support, Myasthenia Gravis Association, RSPCA Sheffield, Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre South Yorkshire, Sheffield Wildlife Trust, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind and Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
