| Rising star Abdi hosts mini athletics masterclass |
One of Sheffield’s finest young athletes has sprinted into action in a bid to encourage more children to hit the running track.
Distance runner Abdirisak Ahmed called into Don Valley Stadium’s kids summer holiday camp to host a mini athletics masterclass and promote the sport as a way of keeping fit and healthy.
The Don Valley Graduate School athlete recently bagged double gold in the SIAB Schools Track and Field International for England and is currently in training for the UK Schools Games in Coventry on 23 August.
Don Valley’s summer holiday camp, for young people aged between seven and 15 years old, provides children with the chance to take part in a range of activities including athletics events and team games.
Abdi said: “The summer camps are great fun and a fantastic way to keep fit and healthy.
The activities run by fully qualified coaches, so it is ideal for people who want to develop their athletics training or for those who just want to try something different and get involved with sport.
“It was great to spend some time with the kids and hopefully my experiences can inspire them to follow in my footsteps and take up the sport.”
Don Valley Stadium is hosting a Halloween holiday camp for kids from October 29 – November 2. The camp is designed for young people aged between eight and 15 years old and includes spooky fun activities and team games.
