| SIV helps promote breast cancer awareness | Up to 200 Fitness Unlimited members at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre will be swimming the same distance as crossing the Channel during a sponsored swimathon as part of Sheffield International Venues (SIV) commitment to Cancer Research UK’s new campaign.
The challenge is part of a variety of activities planned across five SIV sports centres for the ‘It’s a Girl Thing’ Breast Cancer Awareness Month throughout October.
Don Valley Stadium, English Institute of Sport (EIS) – Sheffield, Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, Concord Sports Centre and Hillsborough Leisure Centre will all be hosting fitness activities, raffles, sponsored challenges and pink cake stalls to help raise money for the charity.
Don Valley Stadium will be giving members a chance to take part in a fitness class taster session of three regimes. The event will be on Monday October 13 at 5.30pm and will cost £1.
The UK Centre of the Year, Hillsborough Leisure Centre, will be also be hosting a week-long fundraising drive including gym challenges, raffles and pink smoothies. The week’s fundraising comes to a head with a sponsored Aerobathon on Saturday October 25.
Staff across all of the venues will be ‘wearing it pink’ in support of the charity campaign and well as providing information on breast cancer and the on going work of Cancer Research UK.
Mel Beck, Fitness Instructor and co-ordinator of the charity events at Hillsborough Leisure Centre, said: “SIV and Hillsborough Leisure Centre decided to give this campaign their backing as it is a charity which is close to many of our hearts and we know that our regular customers will give their full support to our fundraising activities”
