SIV on the mark for Transplant Games
Five leading leisure venues operated by Sheffield International Venues (SIV) are warming up to play host to one of the biggest annual multi-sports events in the UK.

Don Valley Stadium, Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, the English Institute of Sport – Sheffield (EIS Sheffield), Sheffield City Hall and Beauchief Golf Course are staging a number of events for the 31st Westfield Health British Transplant Games.

The Games, which are taking place at venues across Sheffield from 7 – 11 August, will bring together almost 1,000 people from across the UK who have received a life-saving organ transplant and are now able to enjoy a new lease of life.

People of all ages will be getting their running shoes on for the Star Donor Run at Don Valley Stadium. The venue will also be hosting the archery, walking, track and field and mini marathon competitions.

Sports hall athletics and table tennis events will be held at EIS Sheffield, with the World Snooker Academy, based inside the state-of-the-art facility staging the snooker.

Competitors will swing into action for the golf contest at Beauchief’s par 67 course while a Britain’s Got Talent style event will take place at Sheffield City Hall.

More than 1,400 people are set to attend the Games Gala Dinner at Ponds Forge, which is also hosting the volleyball, swimming and badminton events.

Dominic Stokes, General Manager of SIV conferencing and events, said; “The Transplant Games are set to be a fantastic four days of sporting activity and we are delighted to be involved in such a high profile, prestigious event.

“Over the last decade, SIV has played a key role in helping to develop Sheffield as an exciting sporting city. We have created a leading model for staging high quality international events and our involvement with the Transplant Games highlights SIV’s ongoing commitment to increasing sporting participation and attendance.

Emma Dean, Event Manager, said: “We are delighted to be using SIV’s prestigious venues for the Games. It’s great for the transplant athletes to be using the same facilities that Dame Kelly Holmes, Jason Gardner and Leon Taylor, just to name a few, have all used.”
