All smiles as Chuckle Brothers back Millers’ move
Two of Rotherham United’s best known fans have given their backing to the Miller’s move to Don Valley Stadium.

Comedy duo the Chuckle Brothers showed their support for the switch with a tour and kick around at the club’s new home ground.

Barry and Paul were joined by the Millers’ new chairman Tony Stewart, assistant manager John Breckin and Pat Smith, Don Valley Stadium’s general manager.

The kids TV favourites, who are honorary presidents of Rotherham United, have just completed their 60 date ‘Indiana Chuckles and the Kingdom of the Mythical Sulk’ tour and took the first opportunity they could to give the thumbs up to the move.

Barry said: “Moving out of Rotherham will be good for everyone; it will make us think about how much we want a football team in the town. And the proposed building of a new stadium in Rotherham could be the biggest turning point in the Miller’s history, just consider what Doncaster Rovers have done.”

Paul said: “It is sad to be leaving Millmoor where so much of the club’s history has occurred, especially for us, as Barry and me were born just a few hundred yards from the ground. But given the problems at Millmoor, this is such a positive decision and we should all applaud Tony Stewart for being so brave.”

The 25,000-seater Don Valley Stadium, managed by leading leisure operator Sheffield International Venues (SIV), is built on the site of the old Brown Baileys steel mill.

Rotherham United fans will be housed in the 8,000-seater Main Stand, which includes a directors’ box, press box, large concourse with bar area, food outlets and a store to sell official Millers merchandise.

A 1,000-seater area to the right of the Main Stand, accessed via separate gates, will be designated for travelling supporters. Other stadium facilities include home and away dressing rooms with a coaching area and treatment room, a fully equipped first aid room, boardroom, VIP lounge and bar area for directors and corporate guests or sponsors and a restaurant area providing the option for pre-match meals.

Pat Smith, general manager of Don Valley Stadium, said: “We are delighted to have the Millers at Don Valley. We are happy to provide our stadium for their use for as long as it is needed and it’s wonderful that the Chuckle Brothers have given their support to the move.

“We have a fantastic track record at staging major events and in the past we have hosted both Sheffield United and Rotherham reserves games, the Chengdu Blades and junior international football, so staging League Two fixtures won’t be a problem.

“It is an exciting time for both us and Rotherham United. We hope Don Valley will prove to be a successful home for the Millers, until they can move back to Rotherham, and we look forward to seeing them recording a win against Lincoln City when the new season kicks off in August.”
