Half Marathon Advice On Motorway Maintenance
Organisers of the SIG Insulations Sheffield Half Marathon are warning runners and spectators coming from the north of a key motorway closure. The M1 between junctions 36 and 37 will be closed until 9am on the morning of race day, Sunday 27 April 2008.

Runners are advised that, although diversions will be in place, it may take a little longer than usual to get to Don Valley Stadium for the start of the race at 9.30am. The Sheffield City Council’s Highways Agency confirmed the closure of the M1 between Junctions 36 and 37 overnight on Saturday 26 until 9am on Sunday 27 April 2008.

The M1 will be fully closed in both directions between Junctions 36 (Birdwell) and Junction 37 (Barnsley) from 21:00 hrs on Saturday 26th April until 09:00 hrs on Sunday 27th April 2008. Traffic will be diverted from junction 37 along a diversion route using the A628 (passing Silkstone & Dodworth), A629 (passing Wortley & Thurgoland), A616, A61, and then returning to the M1 at Junction 36.

Traffic will not be diverted along the more recently advertised route using the A61, A6133 and A628 passing Worsbrough and Barnsley.
